Mental Health Stigma

Mental health stigma happens when a person defines someone by their illness rather than who they are as an individual. Stigma and discrimination can contribute to worsening symptoms and reduced likelihood of getting treatment. Some of the harmful effects of stigma include: - Feelings of shame and hopelessness Lack of understanding by family and friends - Difficulties with social interactions - Fewer opportunities for employment or difficulties at work - Self-doubt believing you will never overcome the illness - Increased psychiatric symptoms - Reduced likelihood of staying with treatment - Bullying or harassment Let us all work towards creating a mentally healthy community, one that is inclusive, rejects discrimination and supports recovery. Are you playing your role in creating a mentally healthy community? . . . #ptsd #mentalhealthstigma #mentalhealthadvocate #veterans #mentalhealth #autism #military #trauma #depression #anxiety #animals #medicine #doctor #anatomy #surgery #nurse #biology #radiology #medschool #laboratory #elderly #cptsd #ptsdawareness #ptsdawarenessweek #ptsdrecovery #ptsdtherapy #ptsdawarenessmonth #ptsdsupport #mentalhealthawareness #multan #pakistan
